Environmental Studies (ENVS): Home

A guide for students new to ENVS

Guide overview

This is a guide for students and researchers studying Environmental Studies (ENVS) at Haskell Indian Nations University. In this guide, you will find:

As an interdisciplinary academic field with a wide range of subdisciplines, Environmental Studies (ENVS) certainly covers a wide scope of knowledge. Combining social sciences with physical, biological, and geographical studies, ENVS can be broadly defined as an interdisciplinary study of how the Earth works, how we are affecting the Earth’s life support-systems (environment), and how to deal with environmental problems we currently face.

The resources in this guide place extra emphasis on the connection between ENVS and traditional ecological knowledge as well as other topics that exemplify the field's interdisciplinarity. It will also describe how students can find more ENVS research through their own searches.

Guiding Questions

Some guiding questions this guides seeks to answer are:

  • Where can HINU students find resources to learn more about ENVS?
  • What are some important topics in ENVS?
  • How can students effectively use research tools?
