Society for the Study of the Indigenous Languages of the Americas (SSILA)Founded in 1981, this organization promotes language revitalization movement through the linguistic study of the languages of indigenous communities from the regions that comprise America. SSILA sponsors an annual conference on indigenous American Languages, publishes a newsletter, contains a language archive and has several annual awards and prizes. Membership plans are available to students, independent scholars, indigenous scholars, underemployed scholars, and retired scholars.
